GERP

Working to protect the biodiversity of Madagascar

Since the year 2007, GERP , collaborated with lemurs follow-up work in the mine site Ambatovy -Moramanga -Madagascar as a service provider.  The Ambatovy project has began the extraction of nickel and cobalt ores where this intervention still required clearing in the forest area.

During previous clearing operations , observations have reflected that the territories of some lemur groups were included in cleared areas. This can negatively impact on the ecology and the sustanaibility of the lemurs population which can even  cause a decline on the particular value of biodiversity in lemurs , all endemic to Madagascar .
